Municipal Records Systems: January 29, 2010

We are seeking information on what type of systems other municipalities are using to record and retain permanent municipal records. As our municipality turned 100 years old in 2007, we are exploring ways to preserve and retain our records. We are seeking comments, ideas and suggestions regarding the use of microfilm and microfiche for permanent municipal records retention. What are other municipalities doing and what has been their experience with whatever process they are using?

Completion of Development of Commercial Property: January 29, 2010

The Town of Nanton has a property owner that has a prime commercial property on which he has constructed a restaurant to 90% completion over 6 years ago. The property now sits idle. It does not fall under our unsightly premises bylaw, nor were there terms for construction completion in place in the development permit. Does any other municipality have any successful tactics to encourage completion of development? Thanks.
